European Union MRR Funds

In the aftermath of the economic and health crisis resulting from the pandemic, the European Union has put in place a series of recovery mechanisms to help rebuild a post-COVID-19 Europe into a greener, more digital and resilient place.

The NextGenerationEU Facility is the most ambitious recovery plan in the history of the European Union, endowed with over €800 billion that will help repair the economic and social damage caused by the coronavirus pandemic and make European economies and societies more sustainable, resilient and better prepared for the challenges and opportunities of the green and digital transitions.

To achieve the goal of building a greener, more digital and resilient Europe, the European Commission has set out 6 priorities or guidelines to be followed:

The Port Authority of Ferrol-San Cibrao has launched several projects and actions linked to the NextGeneration EU strategy, which will enable it to achieve substantial improvements in energy efficiency, to have greener and more sustainable port infrastructures, and to provide it with greater operational competitiveness:

  • Rail link and rail yard Cerr. North: Waiting lane in A Malata.
  • Renewal of the railway line. Inner Port (Muelle Fdez. Ladreda).
  • Rearrangement of the main street and renovation of tracks.
  • Lighting, by LED luminaires, of the access road to the port beacon facilities.
  • Installation of solar panels on the roof of the Cabo Prior lighthouse.
  • Installation of solar panels as an alternative charging system to the lack of electricity supply at the Prioriño Chico and Candelaria lighthouses.
  • Installation of vehicle charging points.
  • Renovation of exterior lighting (energy efficiency).
  • Installation of tide compensators for anti-pollution barriers in the port of Ferrol.
  • Drainage works in La Redonda.
