THE PORT AUTHORITY CONFIRMS ITS PATH OF RECOVERY AND GROWTH
After the best April in its history and a great March, the institution gets over a discreet start of the year and manages to close the first four months of 2018 with similar figures to those achieved last year.
For the first time in 2018, both the loading and unloading of general freight, bulk solids and bulk liquids have increased.
Ferrol, on the 8th of May 2018.
The Port Authority of Ferrol- San Cibrao has recovered the path of growth. This is already a reality. This tendency starting in March has now been confirmed by the last progress report on the activity carried out in the facilities of the institution. The companies operating there moved more than 1.25 tonnes last month; 40.8% more than in the same period in 2017. In terms of freight traffic, this figure makes April 2018 the best April in the history of the entity, ahead of April 2010, which was the best one so far.
According to provisional data, a movement of freight of 1,256,226 tonnes was registered at the docks of the Port Authority last month. As a whole, liquid bulk traffic reached 217,151 tonnes; solid bulk traffic, being the most important traffic, reached 942,361 and general freight reached 95,466. So far, this is the third increase in a row in 2018, which is unprecedented to date. The tonnes of supply goods dropped from 1,394 to 1,228.
The leader in the freight ranking was the bauxite (451,972 tonnes moved); followed by coal (350,738), alumina (109,276 tonnes), fuel oil (91,652 tonnes), liquefied natural gas (58,609), wood (51.949) and biodiesel (26,349). The top ten ranking was completed by scrap (17,117 tonnes), steel (16,502) and coke (11,165).
This great April, together with a good March, has allowed the Port Authority of Ferrol-San Cibrao to return to the black numbers in the year-on-year calculation of freight, a position which was temporarily lost in the first two months of this year. Thus, the figures of the last 12 months show a movement of 13,253,288 tonnes, 2.21% higher than in the previous 365 days.
Thanks to this recovery in the period of March and April, the Port Authority of Ferrol-San Cibrao becomes established as one of the top four port authorities of the North Atlantic-Cantabrian facade. As shown in the graph above, the institution has managed to close the first four months of 2018 well above the historical average, with 4,281,458 tonnes loaded and unloaded, similar figures to those in 2017. Therefore, its strategic objective of registering an average of at least one million tonnes per month is achieved.
